DStv Premium subscribers can now have Showmax bundled with their packages, for free.
First spotted by Shaun Trennery on Twitter, DStv Now has been updated with the following message: Showmax is now included in your DStv Premium subscription.
No other major changes were listed, barring bug fixes and stability improvements mentioned in the app’s change log.
Showmax is normally priced at R99 per month.
“DStv Premium customers will be able to access Showmax via the DStv Now app, as well as their PC, laptop, mobile device, media player, or smart TV,” said MultiChoice. Showmax is also available on DStv Explora decoders.
The Showmax subscription gives customers access to two concurrent streams on different devices. Showmax also gives customers the option to download up to 25 TV shows and movies to their smartphone or tablet for viewing later, said the company.
DStv and Showmax merge
The announcement comes after Naspers recently merged DStv Digital Media with Showmax Africa.
The new division has not been named, but will be overseen by MultiChoice CEO Mark Rayner until a division head is found.
MyBroadband recently reported that Showmax was integrating into DStv, and that Showmax’s video service will become available on DStv’s digital platforms.
There is also speculation that content exclusive to DStv may become available through a streaming package – without the need for a satellite TV subscription.
Showmax and MultiChoice previously stated they were looking at DStv and Showmax working closely on digital entertainment.
